Shower/Bath Cleaners 

Soaps

Liquid/ Gel Soap

2 cups soap flakes or grate a bar of your own soap, 2 litres of filtered water, 2 tbsp glycerine
Mix ingredients together in a large pot over low heat, stirring
occasionally until soap has dissolved. Transfer to a jar and cover tightly.
 For a thicker soap, use less water.

Scented Glycerine Soap

unscented glycerine soap, 10 drops chosen essential oil, 1 drop food colouring (optional)

Melt the soap in a heavy saucepan over low heat until melted.
Remove from the heat and stir in the essential oil and colouring until thoroughly mixed.
Pour into a mould and let set for several hours or until hardened.


  Peaches And Cream Bath Bar 
pure white unscented soap bar, 1/4 cup filtered water, 1/4 cup powdered milk, 
1 tbs sweet almond oil, 1/8 tsp peach fragrance oil, 1 drop orange food colouring (optional)
Grate the  soap and set aside. In a heavy saucepan heat the water over low heat. Stir in the soap until it
forms a sticky mass. Remove the pan from the heat and add the remaining ingredients,
stir until thoroughly mixed. Pour  into a mould and let set for several hours or until hardened. 
    

Almond and Vanilla Soap Scrub

2 tbs ground almonds, 1  bar pure, unscented soap, 1/4 cup filtered water,
1/4 tsp vanilla fragrance oil,1 tbs almond oil 
Grate the soap and set aside. In a heavy saucepan bring the water to a boil.
Remove from the heat and add the remaining ingredients, stirring until thoroughly mixed.
Pour into a mould and let set for several hours or until hardened.
    

Mechanic's Hand Cleanser

1 cup borax, 1 cup grated soap, 1 tsp orange essential oil, 2 tsp turpentine,
2 tbs grated orange rind (optional) 
Using your hands, rub the turpentine and essential oil into the borax until there are
no lumps left, then work into the soap & rind.
Make sure that the jar or container that you are keeping it in can be
easily opened with dirty, greasy hands. It's a great idea to attach a
nail brush to the jar with a long piece of string.

Hair Care
 Dandruff Treatment
Equal parts of water & white vinegar
 Shake vinegar and water in a bottle.  Dab the solution directly onto your scalp with a cotton pad before shampooing,
2-3 times a week.
  
Dry Hair
Massage mayonnaise into hair & scalp. Leave for 30 minutes then rinse & shampoo.
OR
equal parts mayonnaise& mashed avocado massage into hair & scalp, cover hair with shower cap & leave
for 40 - 60 minutes. Rinse then shampoo.
      Split ends Treatment
1teaspoon Honey, 1 Egg Yolk & 2 tablespoons Olive Oil. Mix the honey & oil, then beat in the yolk. Massage
into small sections at a time. Cover hair with a shower cap & leave for 30 minutes. Rinse then shampoo.

Highlight revival for Blondes
After shampooing hair, rinse with chamomile tea.

Highlight revival for Brunettes
Cook an unpeeled potato in boiling water. Cool slightly. While trying not to get any on your skin, apply to
hair & leave for 20 minutes then rinse.

Leave-in Conditioner
Mix 1/2 cup of Aloe Vera juice with 3 drops each of Lavender Oil & Rosemary Oil.

Mousse
Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of Gelatine in 1 cup of boiling water. Pour into airtight container & let sit with lid
off until slightly set.

Hair spray
Chop 1 lemon (or for dry hair use an orange). Boil in 2 cups of water.
When half of the initial amount remains, cool & strain, then place in a spray bottle.
Add 30mls of rubbing alcohol as a preservative & store for up to 2 weeks.
More water can be added if it is too sticky.

Skin Care

Blackheads
To loosen blackheads, combine equal parts baking soda and water in your hand and rub gently on your
skin for 2 to 3 minutes. Rinse with warm water. 

Stretch mark Oil
1 Tbs Sweet Almond Oil, 80g Cocoa Butter, 1/2 cup Coconut Oil.
Over low heat, mix all of the ingredients until it's a clear liquid. Remove & cool.
Once it has cooled place in an airtight container. 
You can add an essential oil such as Rose Geranium if desired.

Lip Balm
1/2 cup each of Sweet Almond or Castor Oil & Glycerine. Mix ingredients together & put into a
lip gloss bottle. Flavouring & food colouring may be added if desired. Glitter may clog roller ball.
Facial Mask 1
Mix oatmeal with enough water to make a thick paste & apply. When dry, wipe off with a damp cloth.
Facial Mask 2
Great for Oily Skin
Grate a medium size apple & mix in 1/4 cup of honey. Spread over skin & wait 10 minutes before
rinsing with cool water.
For a different mask, use several cooked & mashed carrots instead of the apple.

Yogurt Mask
1 Tbs Plain Yogurt, 2 Tbs Orange juice. Mix together & apply to face. Leave for 
minutes then rinse off.

Quick & Easy Lotion
Mix 1/4 cup Avocado oil with 3/4 cup distilled water. Pour into a spray bottle & enjoy!
Shake before use.

Lotion Bar
100mls Sweet Almond Oil, 100mls Coconut Oil, 100g Beeswax & 2 - 3 mls Essential Oil.
Melt the beeswax with the coconut oil in a double boiler. Remove boiler from the heat & add the
sweet almond oil & essential oil. Stir until it clears then pour into moulds to set.

Bath Time
Hot Chocolate Milk Bath
1/2 cup each of Milk Powder,  Cocoa Powder, Baking Soda & Water, and 1 tablespoon each of
Ground Cinnamon, Cornstarch & Cream of Tartar & 2 tablespoons of Almond Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil
or whichever oil you prefer.
Mix all of the dry ingredients together & store in an airtight container. To use heat the water & oil together
and add 2 - 3 heaped tablespoons of powder. Pour under the running water of the bath, make yourself
a mug of hot chocolate, light some candles, slide in the bath & relax.

Oaty Sunburn Bath
Pour 1 cup of Oatmeal under the running water of a lukewarm bath. Soak in the bath for 15 - 20 minutes
Then pat dry with a soft towel. The oatmeal may make the bath slippery.

Coconut Milk Bath
1 cup each of Coconut Milk Powder & Baking Soda, & 1/2 cup each of Sea Salt & Epsom Salt.
Mix well & store in an airtight container.

Dental Care

Toothpaste
6 tsps Baking Soda, 4 tsps Glycerine, 1/2 tsp Salt & 10 - 15 drops of Peppermint Oil.
Mix all ingredients thoroughly to form a paste & store in an airtight container.

Toothache
Place a few drops of Clove Oil on a cotton ball& place over the sore area.
You can also bite down gently on a whole clove with the sore tooth. You may want to soften it first
by soaking in a little hot water.

Mouthwash 1
500mls Boiling Water, 1Tbspn of Fresh or Dried Parsley, and 2 tsps each of Peppermint Oil,
Ground Cinnamon & Whole Cloves. Add all of the ingredients to the water & let permeate for 10 minutes.
Strain into a bottle & store in the fridge. Will store for up to a fortnight.

Mouthwash 2
1 litre Water & 1 tsp each of Baking Soda & Salt. Stir all ingredients until blended & pour into a bottle.
Will store for up to a month. A few drops of peppermint or cinnamon oil may be added
for a refreshing taste.

Toilet Cleaners

Toilet Cleaner 1
Drop a denture cleaning tablet  or two into the bowl and let sit for several hours or overnight.
Toilet Cleaner 2
  1 cup Borax, 1/4 cup Vinegar or Lemon Juice.
Combine the ingredients to make a paste. Apply it to the inside of the toilet bowl,
let sit for 1 - 2 hours, then scrub.

Toilet Cleaner 3
Using the same ingredients in the recipe above.
Flush the toilet to wet the sides of the bowl & then sprinkle with the borax
(you can also use baking soda). Using a spray bottle, spray the bowl
with either vinegar or lemon juice. Leave for several hours or overnight,
and then scrub with the toilet brush.

Shower & Bath Cleaners

Showerhead Cleaner
Boil shower head for 15 minutes in 1 litre of water & 1/2 cup white vinegar.
For plastic shower heads soak them in 2 cups each of hot water & white vinegar for 1 hour.

Lime Build-up
Just use white vinegar.

Mildew
Use a solution of 1/2 cup each of borax,  vinegar & water.

Tile & Shower Cleaner 1
Mix 1/2 cup white vinegar with 1/4 cup baking soda.

Tile & Shower Cleaner 2
3/4 cup Hot Water, 1/4 cup Pine Oil, 1/4 cup Laundry Powder, 1 Tbs Borax
Stir all of the ingredients together slowly until the laundry powder has dissolved.

Fibreglass Tubs & Showers
Sprinkle baking soda onto a sponge & rub over tub.
This can be used on all surfaces of the bathroom.

Mirror Cleaner
Mix 1 litre of water with 1/4 cup vinegar & 1 tbs cornflour.
OR
Vinegar.
