Homemade Recipes for the Garden
You can help repel some garden pests by simply planting certain plants that keep
some bugs at bay. Search the internet or your library for information
on companion planting.
Ants
Sprinkle ground cinnamon over ant nests & around the parameter of your house.
Aphid Spray
2 cups Water, 2 cloves of Garlic, 1 Onion
Blend all ingredients in a blender then strain & pour into a spray bottle.
Don't forget to spray the underside of the leaves also.
Aphid Mulch
Add some aluminium foil to your mulch around the base of your plants or
wrap some around the base.
Works great of tomatoes.
Nicotine Bug Spray
1 Cup Cigarette Butts or Dried Crushed Tobacco Leaves, 1 litre Warm Water,
1/4 tsp Liquid Soap
Mix all of the ingredients for 30 minutes and then strain.
Keep stored in an airtight jar or spray bottle. Will keep for 2 - 3 weeks.
The toxicity of this blend only lasts for a few hours after spraying &
is relatively nonhazardous to bees and lady beetles.
Slugs
Place a bowl of beer along snail trails overnight.
OR
Coil copper wire around the base of plants.
Cockroaches Mix 1/2 cup boric acid with 1/2 cup flour or sugar & sprinkle where they roam.
