Homemade Remedies
Muscle Soak Blend 3 cups of Epsom Salts, 1 cup of Baking Soda & 1/2 cup of Sea Salt. You may want to add some chamomile flowers and/or oil. Puffy Eyes Make a compress from several tbs grated potato & then place over the eyes for 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water. Try not to allow any of the juice to get into the eyes. Acne Apply mashed garlic to the area & leave for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Chamomile Astringent In a saucepan boil 4 cups of water, 1/2 cup of chopped fresh mint (or 2 - 3 tbs of dried mint) & 2 tbs crushed dried chamomile flowers. Allow to boil for 10 minutes then remove from the heat and allow to sit for 5 minutes. Strain the liquid into a jar & store in the fridge. Will keep for up to a fortnight. Cough Syrup 1 1 cup Honey, 1/4 cup Warm Water, 3 - 4 tbs Lemon Juice. Combine the honey & lemon juice then add the water. Stir well then pour into a bottle and store in the fridge. Dosage: 1 - 2 tbs as required. Cough Syrup 2 1/4 cup Lemon Juice, 2 tbs each of Glycerine & Honey. Combine all of the ingredients together & use 1 tsp as required. Cough Syrup 3 2 cups of Water, 2 cups Sugar, 1/4 cup Lemon Juice, 2 tsp chopped, dried Marshmallow Root Bring the water & marshmallow root to the boil then reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 20 minutes. Stir in the sugar slowly until it disolves. If the mix becomes too thick, simply add more water. Remove from the heat & stir in the lemon juice. Allow to cool and store in an airtight jar. Use 1 tsp as required. Cough Syrup 4 1/3 cup Water, 2 tbs each of Honey & Vinegar, 1/2 tsp each of Cayenne Pepper & Ground Ginger Mix all of the ingredients together & store in the fridge. Take 2 tsps as required. Burns Place wet teabags over the burn. The tannin helps to draw out the heat. OR Dab aloe vera on to the effected area. It smells, but it's great! Sunburn Lotion Blend 1/4 cup Olive Oil & 1/4 Vinegar. Using a cottonwool ball, dab onto the effected area. (Also see the Bath section for a sunburn bath remedy) Bladder Infection Take a tsp of pure garlic juice. Garlic has amazing antibacterial & antifungal properties. Take 3 times a day. To help with the taste, mix with a tsp olive oil in 200mls warm water. Headaches A few drops of lavender rubbed into the temples OR Palpate the fleshy area between the thumb & forefinger using small circular motions. OR A chilled piece of aluminium foil placed over the forehead. OR A big glass of water. Headaches are very common with dehydration. Indigestion A glass of peppermint tea. Peppermint has been used for thousands of years as an aid to digestion.
